The team at Melbourne Psychology & Counselling (MPC) is committed to continuing to provide psychological treatment to our clients and local community during this very difficult time.
1. An additional 10 Psychology Sessions for 2020
Firstly, some positive news! The Australian Government has announced an additional 10 sessions available to eligible people under the existing MBS Better Access initiative. All clients who reside in Victoria are eligible, and the additional sessions mean that there are 20 sessions available in 2020. We know that this comes as welcome news to many of our clients! Please speak with your psychologist to discuss more.
Unfortunately, the move to Stage 4 restrictions has meant that there are some further changes to the way we operate as a clinic.
2. Restriction on in-person sessions
While psychology is a permitted industry for the provision of health care, the DHHS has outlines that under Stage 4 restrictions, in-person sessions must only be provided if the absence of, or delay of this care, would result in a worsening of symptoms that required an escalation of care (e.g., specialist, hospital admission). Please consult with your psychologist if you think your situation qualifies for urgent in-person sessions.
There are no restrictions for telehealth psychology sessions.
3. Wearing of masks or face coverings during in-person psychology sessions.
Professor Michael Kidd has confirmed that all health professionals in Victoria (both Stage 3 and Stage 4) must wear a surgical grade mask and eye protection regardless of setting. If a client presents with a cloth mask they will be asked to sanitise their hands and be provided with a surgical grade mask to wear while in session.
As per our previous guidelines, clients are to reschedule any in-person appointments if they, or anyone in their houshold, have any symptoms of illness, including:
